Not straight away, to allow you time to fill the car up (its the flap that locks and not the cap). Can't remember how long before it does, but 15 mins rings a bell. Somebody will know.
If it doesn't, then the solenoid is broken. Its easy to swap from behind the panel in the back of the car (2 screws thru from the outside), and I have been told (unconfirmed) that its the same as the V70, so should be able to get one from most Volvo breakers.
Rob.

I thought mine had broken but then read the manual and it states that it is 10 minutes before it locks I checked mine after this and it was locked.

10 minutes or 10mph. mine is 10mph IIRC, it will lock eventually.

My US spec V70 has no timed lock on the fuel door; it can stay unlocked indefinitely after being opened. It only locks when the car is driven off. I think my wife's 2007 XC90 is the same.

The US spec (and presumably all North American) Volvos have a dedicated button on the dash to unlock the fuel door, but I take it that the UK Volvos do not have this button, right? If this is so, does this mean that on the UK models the solenoid controlling the lock on the fuel door unlocks everytime the door locks are unlocked?
