R.I.P - Gregory. Eco write off.....
Hi Guys,
I've not posted for a long long time as my faithful little Gregory has been behaving himself. Unfortunately, I caved his arse in around a bollard. I am 100% devastated, I am having bad dreams about car crashes and abandonment (seriously!) He was my pride and joy. Such a shame, he had 65k on the clock and full specialist stamped history. I totally fawned over him. So.... If anyone has an Olive green bumper and boot lid, I might be able to salvage, but he will never be as glorious as he was. He is still road legal but his arse is hanging off and strapped in with orange cargo webbing, boot is creased. I think it will be more likely that I have to offer him up for breaking. R.I.P Gregory. 460 CD 2.0ltr Any suggestions please drop me a line, I could not see him go the crusher, It would finish me off. Distraught, Nifton... Last edited by Nifton; Nov 9th, 2012 at 10:05. |

Hiya Subaqua,
Yeah, i tried a bit of spit and a rub with the elbow of my jacket, but no joy... If was just the Boot and Bumper I'd probably try harder, however if you see that little crease under the plate mount, that is where I had to get on my back with the seats down and kick the panel back out. To replace that would need torch work to remove the panel, and then some serious jigging of the spare wheel well, all weld seals are intact but bending back runs risk of opening them all up. If some parts in the right colour show up, then it's worth a try, if I need to respray, then the costs are going rocket. (parts £200 / £300, body work £200, painting £400) I have my eye on a T5-r in gul yellow, not sure what course of action to take. I feel like a very bad father right now. |

Sorry to hear about what's happened.
I cannot offer any magic answers, but I think it will all boil down to how attached you are to Gregory, how much time/money/effort/care you have lavished on him, and how much more life you reckon he had prior to this incident. With cars that age it isn't really about their monetary value (as an insurance company would see it) but their overall value to you. You might weigh all that up and decide he's worth spending lots on...equally, it's an ideal opportunity to move to something new. Ultimately only you can decide! David |

I went from my 440 1.8 se to an 855 t5. You won't regret it I promise. I miss my pacific blue 440 but the t5 is a completely new kettle of fish. Although I swear the 440 was quicker in 1st gear. |

David: Totally smitten with him, but TBH his arches were on the way out, I'd ripped out all the main damage, filled and painted but my repairs had started undermining after 2 years, so he only had another year or so before some serious metal work anyway. Mechanically he is perfect, only 64k on the clock, used to belong to a head Harratts mechanic for 9 years, such a shame
Slipkid: Just put a desposit on a 850 t5 estate, 94 the way forward I think! |

I took the transition from the 460 to the 855 two years ago.
Looking back, I wish I had scrapped my fake Volvo much earlier than I did. It was a poor quality money pit. |

Having had to get back in the busted 460 for a week while the 'Red Baron' is fixed, i can whole heartedly agree, I never really realised how much of a poor mans Volvo Greg is compared to the real deal! Don't get me wrong, I love that 460, it looks so sexy, but drives like a soap box in comparison!
I'll be breaking Greg or selling has whole. It has 11 months MOT a new clutch and fully stamped service history!!!! I'll post in the for sale section when it's available, but if anyone wants to get dibs on anything, drop me a PM. |
