I have a 97 440 and i replaced both my screenwash jets today, just in case this is useful to anybody... I carefully pulled them out of their mounting holes, leaving the pipes connected,i very carefully pulled the pipe up through the hole and then disconnected from jet and pulled the old base seal off (be very careful on drivers side as not much spare pipe from tee piece).
I then connected the new jet to the pipe with base seal already fitted and carefully worked it back into its hole...click job done !! The new jets are much more powerful than the old ones even though I had cleared them out. regards baz |

I have just had a non-working washer pump for the front wipers. I could hear the pump working (and screenwash was squirting) for the rear wipers, but no squirting and no pump noise for the front wipers.
After syphoning the screenwash out of the tank, I removed both pumps and connected the rear pump up to the electrics and rubber fluid line for the front wipers. As for the faulty pump, I couldn't get it to work at first, and even getting continuity with a multimeter (ohms) was proving to be tricky. I used some dry, wet & dry paper to clean up the contacts (which were filthy), but the pump still didn't work when supplied with 12v. I then filled the pump with WD40, gave the spindle a good few turns and gave it a good shake. Once connected back up to the car, it was working fine. I currently have screenwash being squirted front and back |

Yes the motor for the window washer is in a tight place. I once had the rubber hose slip off the motor (and lost around 2L of screen wash) but managed to cable tie it back up again. Time for summer screen wash fluid though...

My hose once slipped off the rear screen washer as well - but the other end!! I could hear the pump running and noticed the water level going down but nothing was coming out onto the rear screen. Having taken the tailgate panel off, I could see where it was going!! A cable tie fixed it. Sarumboy
