Wow-That's not the reaction I expected at all, this is very interesting! I guess it's showing up my ignorance of the Amazon line (1800 driver blushing now, oops!)... However I still do think it's a pretty great car. Calling it a fraud may be a bit harsh, as it's not like a 4-door Amazon is worth loads of money anyway to scam someone out of (though some of the above guesses about price are about right), but all of the above points well taken and would warrant some investigation should someone buy this car. Though I do know that it does have the FIA papers from 62 as the seller sent photos of them to me when I enquired about the car (unless they are "fake" but I think though that's not unheard of, it's unlikely in this case...for a single-seater Maserati sure, but Volvo rally car?). As I said, this is interesting... oh well, seems my enthusiasm got the better of me...Volvo lovers equivalent of beer goggles!

Although on second though concerning FIA papers, I suppose if someone were to have had a car with papers from the 60's and decided to recreate the car on a different chassis, AND had the capability themselves to swap bits back and forth between the chassis as would be the case here considering the circumstances of ownership, it would probably be then tempting to some to sell on the new car as the earlier... it wouldn't be that hard.

Ok, I've just gone through (much more thoroughly before opening my mouth this time!) some of the info that was emailed to me, and ClassicVolvoShop you are absolutely right, there's a lot of strange stuff going on here. For a start, it appears that the FIA papers from 2000 issued through DSMB Germany are indeed for this car, though it is listed as a 1958. But even better these earlier papers he sent me from '62 issued from Sweden are for a 1962 2-Door!! So your words aren't so harsh after all... On the other points, there are what seemed to be good explanations (the B16 was used allegedly to suit the desire of the driver to run the car in the up to 1600cc class but the car comes with B18 and later B20) but in light of the dodgy papers and your knowledge on the car it seems to me now that it's all very questionable, and probably exactly as you say, a later car being passed off as an earlier car with history. Maybe if someone points this all out to the seller they can get the car a heck of a lot cheaper! It's definitely still a nice car, but for sure it's not the car it's supposed to be. Very, very well spotted, I'm a bit embarrassed to be "had" but glad I got the feedback from this post. Good thing I didn't have the money to buy it!
