So, what happened to Chip Tuning Scotland?
In one of my more fanciful flights around t'internet I was looking for RICA agents up this way and found a link to Chip Tuning Scotland in Lesmahagow - but it appears from the message on their front page (http://www.chiptuningscotland.com/) that they're not doing RICA tuning (or perhaps anything else) anymore.
Whats up there?

Out of business by the looks of it, there's very few tuning place's in Scotland now (I think), the only other one's I know of are AVA at the airport (if there still there that is) and dastek, well I think they have one in Scotland. Thats telling me one thing, either people just dont have the money or if if they do are not willing to pay a few hundred to go quicker and just accepting what they have.

Hi, I had a Steinbauer P box fitted to my Pegeot Boxer Turbo Diesel by Argyle Diesel Electrics of East Kilbride. Great improvement all round. More torque and acceleration. Pulls up hills in one gear higher than before.
Beauty of this is that you can take it off and put it into another vehicle with the same injector system. Chipping is permenant. Cheers - Argyler |

Anyway, there are numerous other tuners than the 2 mentioned up here in Scotland, personally I wouldn't touch AVA with a bargepole, but thats just my opinion, good with ford's I'm told (blown a few up too mind you) but never seen much eveidence of being good with anything else, there are folk that swear by them though. Dastek I've only ever used for power runs, very professional though, the owner Gerry really knwos his stuff For tuning and in fact anything from servicing to a full engine build in Scotland, The Garage in wishaw/motherwell should be your first port of call. Just my recomendation, they did all the work on both my rover and Jacqs big spec T4. Other names are Wallace Performance, Hypertech, not sure if Greer are still around, never tried any of these myself and have no plans to, good and bad tales for all as there always is, as I said The Garage are the only place I would ever use. I wouldnt trust sending something like that in the post.....no way!, but thats me. Quote:
I know what you mean about AVA, I too have very few good thing's about them, but having said that, I dont know anyone that has had their car tuned by them, or if they have they didnt say. I forgot about Wallace and Greer, I know he specialised in Scoob's (well I think he did), dont know if he's still or not either. Like I said above though, Simon in lesmahago closing means to me that people just dont have the cash, or not willing to put it into a car. My mate was at him a while ago with his T5 but wasnt that impressed him, well what I should say, he wasnt impressed with the outcome. Then he said after paying Simon about £350 cash he didnt offer to adjust his wastegate which he (Simon) said might be the problem of low boost (he said he wanted another £60 to do that). So when he told me about him, I wasnt going near him either, I'll take my "hard earned" somewhere else. |
