So I tried the original head unit and still had no power to the front speakers. I also tested the continuity of each pin on the ends of the amp connector from the radio to the amp and it all was fine. Unless both head units are giving bad outputs I am assuming the amp is at fault!

Ive ordered the adapter rings for the speakers and was looking at some speakers, there are some JVC 2 way speakers but they're 45w rms, does it matter if they're rated higher?

Not at all no, just as long as they're not less. If they're 45W RMS for the pair, they'll struggle, if that's each, it gives a bit of margin for error and/or a future amp upgrade.

Of course, if you go for a 2000W RMS speaker, you might well need an extra amplifier to drive that!

They're 40w RMS not 45w, looked at the wrong ones but it says the total power is 260w so id assume its 40w each?

Same speakers allegedly rated at 520W peak power!

Still 40W RMS though. Presumably 40W per unit. Should be ok on those unless you upgrade to a modern nead unit with built-in amp that gives anything more than 40W RMS per channel.

Haha that's double, seems a little different but as long as they're okay as I've just ordered them!

So I ordered the speakers, adapters and a new amp. Got the speakers all in and swapped the amp but I still have nothing from the fronts. There must be something wrong with it, could the amp be for only 2 speakers? Anyone got an amp with 4 speakers and could see what part number it is?

I will not be able to look on an amp until later this week if that's not too late for you. Bob
