V50 Center Console Randomly Stopped Working
Hi,
I have a 2008 57 plate V50 2.0D. This morning the controls on the center consle randomly stopped working. When I started my journey they was working fine but en route everything stopped responding. When I press the buttons lights turn on/off but none of the settings change. When I got to work this morning I tried turning my engine off and on again hoping that would work but to no avail. Has anyone seen anything like this before? |

Sounds like a loose connection. I'd pull the waterfall/centre dash out and check all connections are tight

I'll give that a go tonight, couldn't have gone at a worse time, my A/C is set to low and the temperatures are scorching
I'll let you know how I get on |

How long did you wait between turning engine off and on? I've had this once a couple of years ago and as I recall, I took the key out and waited a while for the electronics to fully power down. All was fine when I started again. You'll probably find it's working when you get to it later. Seemingly, a later software update prevented this happening (the centre console can freeze). I haven't had a problem since. When did it last have a Volvo service/Software Update?

It did it straight away. I didn't know you have to wait around 10 minutes or so for the electronics to fully power down.
I nipped out to it at lunch to try it and it worked fine. The only other thing that I noticed was the hazard lights would only work when the engine was running... The last Volvo service it had would be in 2010 I think, I don't know about any software updates. |

I took the panel off behind the console and the connection wasn't loose. I've not had the problem again driving but the hazard warning lights won't work when the key isn't at least turned to position 2. The button flashes to indicate you have pressed the button but the lights aren't flashing and you can't hear the relay working.
It's booked in at Volvo on Thursday for diagnostics. Apparently the wiring harness was changed last year due to a re-call. They apparently did it at the same time it was in for the clutch master cylinder recall but this is the first I've heard of it. |
