Default Alarm LED doesn't flash when car is locked

Evening all

This is ref a 97 V90

As the title suggests the alarm LED doesn't flash when I lock the car via the door. I have a key fob that doesn't work, I have tried re programming it but that hasn't worked and when I try that the LED just flashes rapidly?

Before I brought the car the battery had been left to go flat so is this a possible cause?

If not what is a possible cause/rectification?

Cheers

You alarm isn't armed (it needs the fob to arm it), but the keychip immobiliser on the fuel computer will still be working.

Unfortunately locking the door by the key wil not cause the alarm to arm.

I've got the key fob and Ive replaced the batteries in it but I can't seem to programme it. All the LED does is flash rapidly.

I haven't read the programming procedure so i can't be 100% sure on this, however many alarms rely on the courtesy lights working off the door switches to help enable programming mode.

Make sure your courtesy lights are working and the switches in the correct position for the light coming on with the door/tailgate/boot being opened.

Note that if you have an interior light delay, this uually functions on the drivers door switch and takes about 30 seconds to go out once the door is shut.

Instructions from a pdf I have.

"Key fob programming is carried out as follows:

Close all doors, the hood and trunk lid or tailgate.

Switch the ignition on and off at least 5 times within 10 seconds, leaving the ignition on the fifth time (at this point the LED will flash rapidy).

Press one of the two remote control buttons.

The first remote control must be programmed within 15 seconds.
The other remote controls must be programmed at intervals of no more than 10 seconds.

When the alarm has accepted the code for each remote control, the dashboard LED lights briefly.

Switch off the ignition and test the remote controls."

If you don't get a constant LED when you press the key fob button when programming it looks like the signal from the key fob is not being sent/received. If the battery is ok take the fob apart and clean all contacts. Make sure the metal disc/antenna is in place.
