Just ordered an xc40 R design T4 yesterday from the local dealer about 20 miles away.

The best offer was from Volvo Grimsby, which is 55 miles from me.
The salesman did the usual thing, looked amazed, took my phone away for 10 mins to show his boss, came back and agreed to match it, explaining that they weren't really making any profit on it now etc etc.
Without getting out of bed and going downstairs to get the paperwork, the discount was in the region of £3500 (10.4% off the MRP).
Very happy to do the deal locally.
Hi,

Not criticising/judging the way you went about this in any way, just curious as to the way the online/showroom sales process plays out as I am very much in this "world"....

As Volvo Grimsby offered the price without any of the negotiation/"I'll need to ask the boss/"we're not making any money out of this" rubbish would it not have been nice to have given them the business? .....

I totally get the fact that it is easier to deal with your local dealer, but Grimsby would have paid money to Whatcar to advertise their offers in the hope that they'll sell cars from it ....

Out of curiosity, did you ask your local dealer for their best price before presenting the offer you'd had via Whatcar, or did you just go straight in with "can you match this?".....

Thanks for any feedback in advance, is always appreciated.

Kind Regards

Marc

You did well because Grimsby altered their offer the same day you went to order and my quote dropped a few hundred pounds...I’m not in a rush to order so waiting for the right time. My local dealer also offered to match and I didn’t even tell him what the offer was.
