The rubberised outer of My 2001 v40 key is disintegrating. I’ve bought a key blank off the bay of evil that has a hollow head section (same shape as original) which will accommodate the chip but how do I get it out of the old key?

Precision digging with a small screwdriver gets the job done, it's takes a while but all good in the end, this is what I did with my P1 2l and my P2 t4.

An easier solution is to go to a timpson store or a locksmiths & ask them to clone you another chip & show them why you require it .

Simples

Interesting suggestion, dingov70.

I thought only Volvo could provide a copy key with a transponder that would like to the car's circuit and that any other keys would be missing a chip or would still require being taken to a Volvo garage to be 'paired' with the car.

Do you know how much Timpsons might charge for a working paired key?

That'd be useful info.

Thx

Evening , to the best of my feeble brains knowledge all rfid chips are the same size & are a simple " copy & paste " exercise . This means the car reads the key & will start .

Getting any other buttons working will need VIDA/DICE

Your best bet is to pop in & ask OR ! try a local REAL locksmith , they are normally far more willing & able to help , prices vary a lot
