I would be going batsh1t here.

Dealer sells car that has been 'tampered' with to you. Problem occurs, v-a-v the aforementioned 'tampering'. Dealer attempts to walk away from his responsibility, which was occasioned by his selling you said car in that condition.

Stop it, do, you're killing me!

The dealer it's at isn't the one I got it from. However, I don't know if they're under pressure from Volvo to reject warranty work on electrical items they say are tampered with - i.e. they know Volvo won't entertain it. I can see evidence of this on other threads where people have fitted dash cams and have been denied warranty claims.

It is the way the factory build them. The dealer is ignorant and lacking in knowledge and common sense.
Unless he understands that and is saying he believes you have fitted something else as well after delivery to the earth point and then removed it before you took it in to be checked. But he has no proof of that.

Firstly, if the car is brand new, then being accused of tampering with an earth point is way out of order. Also a dodgy earth point will not discharge a battery, but it could result in various fault modes due to a voltage drop across the terminal. The first thing I would do, if I was the dealer, would be to undo the terminal, clean up and ensure I had a good electrical connection, before refitting the nut.

It's been a strange engagement. I also got asked before it had been investigated whether I'd knowingly be aware of why there might have been water ingress.....before they had looked for water ingress.

It's perhaps not intentional, but I feel the finger is firmly being pointed at me!!

Take it back to the supplying Dealer. Forget the Volvo warranty. Focus on the requirement under the new consumer legislation to sell you a car that works!

Which, for now, is why I've handed the issue over to Volvo UK. I don't have time to drive all over the country to get cars fixed. I'll give them a few days to see if they can sort this out.

Soupy,Don't forget to ask/demand your loan car be returned to you! Are the leasing co. involved? Do not be too nice to 'Them' Get them in the frame of mind where it is "Oh no,it's Mr. Soupy" keep them on there toes! it does work, I recall many moons ago hiding down an inspection pit under a customers car, after closing time with the service manager, and the workshop tester, and the customer Mrs. R calling across the large workshop, "I know your there somewhere".

Regards, Keith

Yes I agreed with you and explained why it has to be done like that. 👍
