Agreed there is an application to download to remove the radio from the S80 / V70/ S60 but i dont think this will apply to the competely different and more advanced XC90 system .. if you have info, what is the SW part number?

The prob you have, is BBA-Reman only fix probs with the display itself.

Not sure what they charge for an exchange unit, but the costs of having the software downloaded and installed at main stealer will prob double if they have to remove said software from the replacement unit first.

Also, there is the additional cost of getting the car there, as when the radio is removed, the security system activates and immobilises the car...

TBH, I'd just get one from Volvo, i know it costs more - BUT in the event of a fault, at least they will have to cover it, rather than use the get out clause that it's the (non Volvo supplied) ICM that is causung the prob - Volvo don't seem too good at good old fault finding, they charged £280 to repair "alledged" wiring faults, that they reckoned were causing the prob with our radio - Even though I had virtually stripped the car and tested every cable - AND stripped the ICM and resoldered every joint I could!

Thankfully they credited that against the ICM replacement - without "admission" of the fact they cocked it up!

The reason I know is because I had it done on my xc90 last week,
software part nr: 8696093, cost 10.76 + labour.

I can let you know which dealer if you like, they were very helpful.

I can confirm that if you arent willing to let the dealer sort out a problem like this , get them to download this software and take the car away , there is a fair chance it will work again IF the radio comes on then goes off ... nothing to loose everything to gain ..

Having made this change to the car's software what have you done by way of hardware?
I am interested in replacing my six cd unit with something that integrates sat nav etc.

Thanks

Hi Paddy

I have exactly the same problem as you had - Sat Nav, Radio and Parking Assistance intermittent and I am being advised that the only option is to replace the whole Stereo unit (£900 plus VAT and labour). I'm really keen to find alternative options for obvious reasons. If you could let me know your dealer's name I would be really grateful.

Many thanks

Hi all,
I'm recently owner of a XC90 D5 used. Of course, i'm a ignorant about this car.

One question, my radio is not running the nightlight for the power, volume, CD,FM bottons but yes the other ones. It is normally. It's means that anything is failing?

Thank you very much in advance.
Regards. "Salutacions a tots"

Had a very similar, but weird problem with my 2005 XC90 today. Initially my key fob would not activate/deactivate the alarm while my car was in my drive. I managed to get it started with the key and drove to my local dealership where they checked everything out.

They could find no problem with car and key worked fine their. Their theory was that there was some kind of interference at my home. When I got home, the key fob would not work again so I tried turning off my home wireless router and suddenly key fob would work again.

Now a new problem has arisen. I've just been out in car and the radio won't turn on. You push the on button and it comes on briefly before turning off. Sometimes it just won't come on at all.

Does anyone know if;
1) This might be a fuse problem, and if it is, where the fuse is?
2) The two faults could be related.

I'm now going to sleep on the issue and see how the car is tomorrow. We've had a very wet day today, and I've seen other electrical faults on the car before during rain but I guess it's a longshot that could be the problem.

I hope what I have described is not similar to everyone else's very expensive problems.
