No full service history on my V50 2008, 81000 miles, getting it replaced FOC on monday after a visit to my local dealer on Wednesday (had to order the part), no hassle.

Quite right. Checks of the air con and condenser are not part of any service within my first three services.

the reason why the condensers are corroding is because the company who originally made them for volvo decided to uese different materials i got this from the horses mouth down in daventry training center

That's how I read it. However, I suspect that the horse, as a Volvo employee, was not going to admit Volvo specified the part wrongly.

I got mine done foc a few months ago, after mot they noticed the a/c wasn't working and asked, 2008 2.0d 52k part Volvo service history, I got told the same about being a known fault.

Sure; simply set a pressure washer lance to "fan" rather than "jet", and aim it through the small grille in the right hand side of the bonnet slam panel in such a way as to flood between the rear face of the intercooler and the front face of the condenser. The gap in question is easy to see. I will wear my safety goggles when I do this as I expect significant reflected spray.

My 2007 (currently for sale) had the condenser replaced by Volvo Northampton, it's out of warranty but because the car has full volvo service history they agreed to pay 80% of the bill - wondering now though if I should've been able to have that done free. Ah well, it was a year ago now.
