Thought id post a link to this car that ive seen for sale before. How he thinks he's going to get almost £3000 for that tacky heap im not sure...

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1980-VOLVO-244...item4a9ca50858

List of things I can see wrong with it....

-wrong colour front spoiler
-Aftermarket spot lamps
-missing headlamp wiper blade
-corroded and filthy wheels
-Door edging strips that scratch and may be hiding scruffy edge
-Strange homemade looking locking filler cap
-Rust along edge of drivers side rear door?
-dulled paintwork
-Tacky reflectors and those horrible trailing strips on the back bumper.
-Horribly pitted rear bumper
-Rusty rear arches
-knackered wheel centre caps
-Cracked passenger side front indicator
-Pitted chrome on headlight surrounds
-Delaminating windscreen?
-Tacky non genuine floor mats
-Horrible stick on accessories on dash
-Excessively worn steering wheel...?!
-Taped up steering wheel
-Seat covers hiding something?
-Taped up passenger arm rest/handle
-Boot boards and paintwork scratched
-Horrible underbonnet foam added
-Generally mucky engine bay - flakey laquer and rusty bits in general
-ORIGINAL HT LEADS!
-Aftermarket battery
-Strange wiring going on with aftermarket relay on the auxilliary panel and along back of engine bay
-Oil leak onto engine undertray
-Aftermarket oil filter

Dont get me wrong, it looks a nice enough car, but not a car to be described as "excellent" or "like new"

You certainly cant say "absolutely no rust anywhere"!

And its certainly not a one off - I know of several lower mileage cars and many many 240s in far nicer condition!

£3000!!!!!

[/RANT OFF]

Steve

Can't fault the guy/gal for trying but like you said a bit of a dreamer, if the car was concourse then perhaps the asking price would be realistic but in that condition.........................?

I really like that one. It looks like a proper motor, like nobody builds anymore. Some love and passion went into that design, I've never seen one like it before.

Agreed the 262 looks sweet, but if it is a 'V'-reg, then it has had the bumpers, lights, front wings, and the dash completely replaced! In fact given how well it looks, almost certain it must have had a LOT of work done, probably bits 'updated' at the same time?

mine is an 'X'-reg '81; but has the (proper!) big alloy bumpers, older style wings & indicators, headlamps with plastic surround, early dash.

Were they ever made with that dash/front end?

I can only see a normal 240/260 dash from 1980 onwards..... dad had a few of the 240's that all had the same dash.....

Where do people get these valuations from ! - there is probably a nice car under all that crap (hard to tel though). The reality is that it won't cost £3K, by the time you have sorted it all out, this is £5K car. Personally I have never been into low mileage cars either. Love that 262C though - nah I think I will stick with the GLT.
