Update on Conti Eco-Contact wear
195x60x15 Continental ecocontacts on 850 2.5l 10v estate.
Just done 10k miles, and have 4-5mm left on the front tyres. Grip still very good in wet and dry. Do have a tendency to follow roadwork ruts though. |

RE: Update on Conti Eco-Contact wear
What sort of driving are you doing on these?
I had a set of 4 fitted (also 195x60x15) to my S70 TDi at 57k miles and am now just coming up to 78k miles and am looking at 5mm on the front and 6mm on the back. Having said that, most of my driving is motorway so tyres tend to last me well (and I rotate front to back every 10k miles). Have to agree that the ride/ handling on these is excellent but haven't noticed the tramlining except when the tracking is out. |

Mostly round city, lots of stop/start/lots of welly...
just notice the tramlining because road repairs always seem to have an edge on the driving line and get rutted because of this... |

I was just wondering. Have any of you guys experienced 'over steering' with these tyres? I could wrong, but I have noticed it a little.

RE: Update on Conti Eco-Contact wear
I'm sorry but I don't rate these tyres at all. The grip is bad, they seem to make the car oversteer worse & they tram line something cronic - not a patch on the Michelin Energy's on my last 850 !!
Just my opinion for what it's worth. Cheers, John.

RE: Update on Conti Eco-Contact wear
Yep!! I'll go for that, and I'm not as high performance as you boys!! I drive a 760 V6 and I think they STINK!! Wear wise perhaps they are okay, but grip is "Pants" to say the least. I admit it looks cool to have smoke Billowing out the rear arches, but it don't help the issue of grip. I also find the car "tale happy" more in the wet than in the dry, Greasy surfaces don't contribute any to their performance, so I have to say that I won't be buying these again.
Incidentally they are the same size as you describe, and the car is a 1989 760 GLE Estate. Sorry Guys :P Regards Dave M |

RE: Update on Conti Eco-Contact wear
I have the Conti Sport Contact 205/50 ZR 16TL, so I guess we're talking about different tyre types here?
I haven't noticed a lack of grip, quite the opposite in fact (No tyre stripping, just thrust!!), especially in the wet. I'm confused as to the term tramlining. What is this? Is it when the tyres feel like they've got a mind of their own and fight with you for the road? I don't get anything like this at all. I have perfect control and a very smooth quiet ride. I did have some of the problems discussed on this thread with my last tyres though. Dunlop SP9000 205/50 ZR 16TL They wore down quickly, had no grip, became deformed quickly and were constantly having a fight with me. I've heard though that Michelin are pretty good. Oliver |
