Default Noisy underneath conclusion i hope

Hi all,

Took my beastie to the dealer that replaced my clutch today. They were going to use microphones attached around the engine bay to isolate the noise.

Problem was found to be the spring bolts on the CAT. I presume these were not correctly tightened up when the sub-frame was put back in place.

On another note i had a Rover 75 1.8turbo. Not bad actually the suspension was soft as i remember them used to be and shifted quite quickly. I just could get used to the backerlite dash board. I am an ex-Rover employee :P pre-BMW.

mark.

What do you mean by CAT? Catalyser? If so, I have a noisy cat as well. I was told that the inner part had come loose and was rattling. The cause was put down to wear and tear, but probably the use of cheap diesel. Remedied fuel cause, but the manual does say that a CAT's life has between 80,000KM and 150,000KM depending on driving style, (not 9 lives sadly):) so I guess it's about time to replace it. I've done 215,000KM and I don't think its ever been changed.

Hi Mark

I'm no expert, but may I ask you to explain what these 'spring bolts' are exactly? Can they be checked in situ? What're the symptoms etc.?

I'm having problems with a noisy 'engine'. Volvo told me that the CAT needed replacing as somehting has come loose inside. I don't usually jump to attention when mechanics say such things, as it's clearly in their interest for me to respond like a lame duck. So, I'd like to be sure that the problam isn't as simple as yours before forking out 800 Euro.

Many thanks

Oliver
