It's stuck !
Hi all,
The ariel on the 854 goes up and down fine but the ariel itself does not fully extract. I have tried to spray WD40 and pull at the ariel with the stereo on, but I can't make it pull out any further ! Any ideas? IceMan |

RE: It's stuck !
Hi ya iceman,
Well firstly you don't ned the ariel and it's wider luckily. 1. this what you need to do is undo the nut on top the the ariel when full retracted. 2. Then switch on the radio and observe as you help the whole ariel and it's guide come out fully. Make sure you notice which way the teeth are pointing!!! 3. Now with it out give the track a good cleaning. Also i normally use a chrome type polish on the mast itself to bring the colour back. I then give it a wd40 and wipe this all over. 4. Now with the mast still out, retract it fully and then out again using the guidetrack to see if it works easily, yes ? 5. Now we are ready to feed the ariel back in. There is a small hole in the motor housing where the gear system is theat the very pointed end of the track needs to go through. This can be a pain sometimes in finding, so be warned in case. Lower the track down with the teeth facing the way it came out! as far as it will go, until it catchs on the gearing. 6. Its hand if someone else can now swithch off your radio, if not you have just enough time due to the capacitence dealy before the motor trys to wind it in. Help it down until fully in. 7. put the top nut back on and try the ariel several times up and down. This normally works for me. I have taken the motor assembly apart before as it was full gunged up. If your's does work this is the next step and easy to do. If that doesn't crack it its either a new ariel mast or a replacement. Here is a link also about all my rambling, http://www.volvospeed.com/Repair/antmast.htm Hope it all helps, Mark.
