Default Roof Box positions

Guys,
I have a roof box and am going to put it on my T5 estate, for the annual trek to the south of France, Where is the best position for it to be on the extremely long roof rails on the estate?

I have only ever had it fitted to hatchbacks when the box was nearly as big as the roof itself!!

Also what bars have you guys got? Are the expense of Thule bars really necessary?

Thanks in advance
M@

Logic would suggest that if the rear of the estate is going to be loaded up with all the heavier items, the box should be as far forward as possible to balance the load across the axles.

Remember that the box should have bulky but light items in it - duvets, sleeping bags, disposable nappy packs etc.

Thanks Simon,
Thats pretty much what I figured...
Its just the roof is soooo long on the estate compared to the other cars I have had.
Thanks again
