there should be a tyre valve type fitting on the injector rail , you will need to be able to see the gauge whilst driving , you can tuck it under a wiper blade if the hose is long enough .

Should it be the pressure regulator what are the options for replacing it seen the one I have is no longer available? It looks pretty identical to vag ones tbh. Would one of those suffice?

Not unless you know what the pressure it is set to , they are all different to suit different engines fuel systems .

Ask Bosch and see if they have anything compatible or a replacement part. Then if you find a part number from then you can crosscheck it with other brands or suppliers.

you have not tested it yet , It is highly unlikely to be faulty ...

Pressure when pump is primed is 43psi or thereabouts. My idling fuel pressure is 66psi. Not done a pressure test under load but when revving it drops to ~50psi. What does this mean? Seems high?

the specification is 2.1 bar to 3.8 bar ( 30.5 - 55 psi )

so under all conditions from idling to coasting down hill with foot off throttle to full turbo power it should be between those figures .
The vacuum pipe is a reference to boost pressure , it raises or lowers the pressure to what ever it is + or - turbo boost pressure . So as boost pressure comes up so will the fuel pressure . Likewise when foot off the throttle with lots of vacuum the fuel pressure will drop until you demand power again .

From what you say it seems fine ..

My fuel pressure drops when on throttle at idle and then increases to 66psi when off throttle so that is the opposite of what you described as normal? Any ideas for what's causing such hard starts and a lean code? Maybe injectors? Thing is driving me mad just now. Giving me low boost with no leaks evident on smoke test. Maybe a blown cbv but then that wouldn't explain a lean code.
