Is my Volvo an 850 t5 or t5-r?
I recently bought a stunning Volvo 850 t5 saloon. Or possibly a t5-r, I’m really not sure...
The car seems completely original and is badged t5 on the back. However on the v5 document, it states it’s a t5-r. Engine size 2319cc. I also did a number plate search online on this car specs website which also said it is a t5-r. I read that the t5-r was brought out in 2005 which made me think that mine must be the t5, because the car I’ve bought is a 2004. However It was first registered 31/12/1994 so maybe it’s possible that mine was one of the very first t5-r’s made. Also I thought the t5-r was only made in 3 colours, my car is dark red/maroon. Any opinions and help would be much appreciated, thanks. I’ll attach a few pics of my phone let’s me |

Pop into your local Volvo dealer: they will be able to give you a print out of the original spec and all the factory fitted options. I find the parts chappies are particularly good for this kind of thing.

Doesn't have the half-alcantara interior so I'd guess it's a normal T5. Also missing some R trim pieces.
You can check the boost pressure to confirm, the T5Rs had 0.1bar higher boost levels.

I recently watched a youtube video about the 850 T5-R story. They say Volvo only made 2,500 yellow, 2,500 green and 2,500 black T5-R's.

It's a T-5, and a lovely one at that.

So why would the log book state it's a T5-R?

My T5 isn't a T5 according to the logbook, it's just an '850 GLT' (which was an American thing! Clerical errors at the DVLA happen all the time, doesn't mean anything.
Vin and chassis/engine numbers will confirm what model it is, along with engine and trim levels.
