Windscreen sunstrip
Hi guys, I've got a query from my father in law...
He's got a 2012 XC90 Executive model and he loves it to bits, his only issue is the blue sunstrip across the top of the windscreen. Basically he's 6'8", and when he's driving it the main thing he can see is the sun strip, making driving at night pretty tetchy. Is it possible to get windscreens for it without the strip?

Might be (relatively) cheaper to have the drivers seat reupholstered to lower it a bit.
I assume it is already as low as it will go on the adjustment? Cheers Dave |

Ask him to contact national windscreens and ask them, some times there will be a cheaper option and have no special properties such as the sun block, The Renault Laguna II has the version with the purple look to it and also one without, the latter was cheaper, not that that matters if replacing on their insurance.
As a side note,
Check ya policy, always best to use the window policy, far cheaper

NB if you fit a non-standard windscreen the rain sensor may not work properly.

Just had mine done through insurance. National windscreen stated they will only replace with what came out of the factory like for like. Could pay to have done privately as assuming it doesn't n ed replacing under insurance but would guess not cheap?

Bashy - Not sure I'd be discussing this on an "open to read" forum...

Why? theres nothing illegal about, a loophole perhaps, but not illegal, if the screen is not suitable whether damaged or not then it should be changed.
Ring up insurers, ask them if you claim through them or the glass company and 9/10 its the glass company, ring up glass company and tell them the screen is not suitable due to sun strip, they will come out and change it (if its available without), they will then put in the claim, what the glas company say is up to them, its out of your hands.

That is a heat reflective windscreen and was fitted as standard to higher spec models, it is an option on the XC90 as mine has it. I can see why the window companies would only fit what it came out the factory with as they would be changing the spec of the car and insurance compiles dont like that understandable.

I'm 6'5" and don't come close to having a problem. Is he sure there isn't some more downward adjustment in the seat?
But Jeez, six-eight. I have a hard enough time getting trousers as it is. |

When I got my S60 I was also bothered by that strip tint, I've learned it's embedded into the glass so had to live with it. I got used to it, but indeed if he's that tall, only option would be an aftermarket windshield assuming there are ones without the tint.
