Default Tyre wear!

I have a 96 850 GLT 20V estate and the front tyres have just done 12k before needing replacement. The rears have done 20k and look like new. I drive fairly sensibly and wonder if anyone else can quote any figures. The tyres are Eagle SSTs.

Hi Freddie,

As you are a non Turbo like myself thats not very good.

I used to use on mine Goodyear NCT2's. These were very grippy in any weather but the down side on the fronts they lasted to about 25k when down to 3mm and also the fuel consumption was bad, 25mph.

I changed to the F1's thinking they would be better after speaking to some traffic Police who had then on their 850's. They gave me better milage and also longer tread life, but i don't think the grip is as good. Driving around the car park 2 at heathrow they seen to slip a lot on the concreate. :-(

At present i have 40k, with 4mm on both rear and fronts as i did swap them around when i had 5 on front/6mm on rear.

I would get your tracking checked to make sure you are not having uneven wear. Do you run with high pressures or heavy laded at times? You will find all there will contribute too.

Mark.
