Default 850 engine clean...?

Hi Folks,

Just wondering, have any of you ever cleaned your engines? What method did you employ to carry out the job. I used to be a car
valet (where I first drove a T5) and a lot of our work came from a near by Volvo dealership, but in all the 850's I have cleaned, I never had the task of cleaning the engine. Actually, if my memory serves me correctly, we were instructed "not" to clean the engine
due to so many electrics etc..................Anyone?

Hi Mark,

Basically, I just want to clean it up a little to give it a fresher look (very dusty) and also to make it cleaner to work around.

Any advice welcome...

Hi Baffler,

As a valeter I'll tell you what to do! Firstly get the engine hot, It needs to be, so when you jet wash it most of the water will turn to steam. Spray the engine bay with a multi-purpose cleaner. I would recommend Autosmart's G101.
Leave the cleaner on there for a few minutes and then rinse it off. Once you've done this, close the bonnet but leave the car running for 10 minutes or so. The heat from the engine will dry the engine compartment out.
Once dryed, spray Autoglym's silicone spray on the plastic area's and you should have one gleeming engine bay.
I've done this to all of my volvo's and they've been fine. One word of caution though, Cover up your dizzy cap or the water will get in!
If you have any questions just e-mail me.

Matt.

...Great....thanks for the reassurance. I had imagined it would be done this way as I have carried out this procedure on many a car but just wasn't sure to do it with mee Volvo...

Thanks again.

These sprays are naff i used them on my bumper etc ages ago. I used to be a big fan of Autoglym but i am changing over to the US product of meguiars, but they are hard work but give good results. I see people at shows using them and it give such a false look.

just my opinion

Anyway this is what i put in an email to you:-

Anyway cover all the electrical bit up and give the engien a good dose of an engine cleaner. Then spray it down with cold water. You may have to do this more than once.

I have actually polished my head up took me three months on and off as i have a bad back. I used different grades and chrome cleaner the problem is stopping the corrosion comes back.

All the black areas i actually dismantle and then clean them all again with car shampoo. I then use tin of sparkle or, boot polish or rubber restorer for those hoses.

Cables can be treated the same way just takes time especially if you disconnect them.

I use a wire brush to clean up the contacts.

The brake pipe work is lots of brasso and rubbing comes up eventually but in our bloody climate soon tartnishes, but not so bad for the next show.

Markas, got any pics of you're car to post? My t5 estate works for a living and cleanliness is pretty neglected if I'm honest - just curious to see the effect and condition you've achieved

What size are the files, or is it you had used your space allocation on the gallery? I can change it if it is.
