Default Petrol consumption

I'm busy researching the XC60 while I await delivery of mine in May\June. I'm having trouble finding consistant information regarding petrol consumption. I've read average mpg figures as low as 15 and as high as 32. Can anyone comment on their real-world experience of how much the car actually drinks, how much they're getting per gallon? Cheers.

Default Mpg

I and many others have asked this very question and if you use the search feature there are a fair few detailed replies .

Briefly models vary significantly with the Drive e manual coming in about 45mpg .The auto 2.4 about 35 mpg and the 4X4auto D5 about 30 mpg and less .

Averaging 31 MPG on D5 (205 bhp) Auto AWD in Hampshire countryside driving - much the same as town driving. Motorway was giving me 42 on journey to/from Manchester (600 mls round trip)

As I only have 4500mls on the clock I would expect it to get better, my v70 (D5 163 bhp) took 10000+ mls to start giving good consumption (~40mpg for similar countryside driving)

Many thanks guys. That's certainly better than I had expected to hear, thus very encouraging. Cheers.

Actually the poster puts his hands up and admits his own mistake! I used the word "Petrol", but in fact my ordered car is a D5 Diesel! That said I was actually trying to ask a general question about real-world MPG on both engine types.
Oops!

Just don't make the same mistake with the real one at the pumps!

If the world hasn't exhausted all oil supplies by the time Volvo get round to delivering it, no!
