XC60 Automatic gearbox problems?

How good and reliable are Volvo automatic gearboxes?

Good reports and bad reports welcome?

In my experience, excellent. I had an S40 for 4 years, and an S60 for 3 years and never had an issue. Hopefully the XC60 will be just as good.

I believe that the auto is a Japanese Aisin.

I also had Aisin auto in my Citroen C5 estate a few years ago (probably a different model as that only had 138BHP) but no problems experienced with that whatsoever and was always very smooth. Citroen had similar manual option but also has a sport button and a winter mode button to change characteristics. Don't know why the Volvo Aisen doesn't have a winter mode button instead of having to manually select 3rd gear? Having said that I didn't need to use the winter mode in the recent bad weather anyway

dont forget that the auto box is a far more refined unit than it was 30 or 40 years ago and in my experience the volvo boxes are as good as any.in the two series cars they were made by borg-warner but i dont know who makes them nowadays.

was put off the xc90 auto as it was hesitant to drive.

very impressed with the auto in the xc60, smooth direct, good change points, very quickly moves up and down the box.

and it really suits the car IMO.

Coming from a Honda CR-V 2.0 Auto to the XC60 D5 Geartronic it is like night
and day. Whilst the gearbox in the honda was good - The volvo just runs rings round it. Ok I have only driven 750 miles in my new car so far but I love it.
