Driving over speed bumps

My V90 (1997) does not like speed humps! I always drive with one wheel over the bumps if it is one of these 'tables' I never span them to avoid damaging tyres. I have to reduce my sped to around 15mph, but even then my car shakes about quite a lot. Does anyone knoe how I can make my V90 more speed hump tolerant?

I straddle them, as it doesn’t make the car ‘twist’. Can’t damage the tyres as much as potholes!

I find, with the narrow tyres on the car, mine pretty much straddles the speed humps near me and I get over them fine.

In my 745 I treat speed bumps of whatever size as a fabulous work-out for my shocks all round.

Usually, speed humps/bumps have very little effect at 25 mph or so however you mount them, or don't, on my 745 with Nivos. Speed platforms are a different matter

Some bumps are so small you just drive straight over them as the wheels don't touch them. It's as if you are on a flat road. Others are so high you really do have to be cautious and consider their height and that of your under-carriage!! As some say size counts!!

Experience of humps Nationwide has shown me that all differ in size (bump efficiency!!), and I am sure a lot are outside Regulation dimensions, but I am not going to stop and get my tape measure out!!

It is not good practice to cross a speed bump that will lift your wheels evenly on both sides as it is said they affect tyre wear and tracking. Attack these with 'gusto' and put one wheel in the middle of the hump and the other on the flat road surface. Drivers behind always marvel how a 745 treats them with disdain!!

Mini-roundabouts are also so small that I quite often I have to drive over the centre ... much easier!!

If i had my way, speed humps would be replaced with politicians. Once driven over enough times, they would be flat anyway!

I read somewhere the other day that someone has finally realised that speed humps and similar "traffic calming measures" actually cause more congestion and pollution than they were intended to save.

All that aside, they do vary enormously and i know of one speed hump in particular that has beached a bus of all things!
