Compatibility of estate boot seats between 850/V70 and 940
Hi all,
My partner Amy has a MK1 V70 estate and would like to buy a 940 estate to replace it, the only issue being that a 7 seater 940 is proving hard to come by at sensible money. The V70 has the jump seat conversion in the boot and I'm curious to know whether that could be removed from the V70 (it was retrofitted by Volvo when the car was 6yrs old) and fitted in a standard 5 seater 940 estate...does anyone know if this is possible?

If the V70 "Auxiliary Seat" is the same as that fitted in the V90, then yes, it is possible Phil. Have a look at Pg51 of this pdf :
https://accessories.volvocars.com/Le...R_GB_NL_DE.pdf As you'll see, the 7-seat conversion (or "Auxiliary Seat" as Volvo call it) fits the V90, and all 7/9x5 models. I was always under the impression the V70 was just a smaller engined, less well equipped version of the V90, a bit like the 7/94x was smaller engined, less equipped version of the 7/96x, whether i'm right or wrong i don't know but could well be worth looking into. I'm fairly sure you could in fact answer the question with a tape measure though. Look in the boot of your 744 and have a measure up against the V70 to see if the seats could be fitted (not necessarily used though!) in the boot of your 744 - if so, they'll fit (and be able to be used) in a 945 as the floorpans are the same.

I am happy to be corrected but nothing from a v70 is really going to fit into a 940, since its a 100% different chassis, the ph1 V70 was face lift for the 850 and renamed model to fit the "new" line up
the V90 was the last update to the line of RWD cars, independent rear suspension and a new front end are the most obvious differences. The seats pop up on ebay etc fairly often but getting all the bits etc can be tricky

Thanks guys, I'll think again re the seats. If we can't bag a 7 seater we will seek out the bits to retrofit the proper 7/900 seats.
I'm not sure why neither of us have gelled with the V70. I really don't enjoy driving it and neither does Amy, but neither of us can really pinpoint why! When I get into my 744 or 245 after driving the V70 I could practically jump for joy, despite neither being anywhere near as quick or refined as the V70.

When and if you do get that far you will find that the seat for 700/900 and Ph1 70's is the same (later ones do not have the arm rests thought!!).
You will also find that you can strip a seat and ALL fittings, inc seat belts out from a doner in about 30/45 mins. Make sure you take everything associated with the seat and ancillaries. Re-fitting is a doddle as all the holes (threaded or otherwise), and essential notches in steelwork pressings are all there just waiting to accept a seat. Recently, I sold an immaculate seat out of my 745 breaker to a very satisfied customer of a 940 ..... it has payed for a new middle silencer box to be fitted to my car this week by the guy that now does my dirty stuff! It's now so nice to drive my 745 again as it no longer sounds like a riffle range inside and out!! Bob |
