It's not in the boot, it places the speaker roughly parallel with the shoulder of the rear-seat passenger. The Volvo speakers I've seen there were little 4" jobs in square housings, but looks like Antz got 5.25" ones in there. I've always put mine in the bottom centre of the rear door cards, though. I've also seen them placed though the rear headlining, with a piece of wood screwed in side-to-side above the headliner.

Okay Wooble, the 4" ish jobs would tie in with my fronts. The rears I have are bigger, but still OE from 'later' models . Torslanda , SE etc I think ? Hance 'needing' to go in that lower door card position?

yeah, the OE later speakers went bottom-centre of the door cards, and had separate tweeters mounted high up. I can take some pics of that one I'm currently ripping apart tomorrow if you'd like?

Thanks Wooble. Yes please. I haven't got the Tweeters, but may be able to cobble something together with some spares I have in my shed

I've just removed the rear O/S door trim for a 'look see'. Mad Matt is right, the cut outs are there. These are (on mine) for the 4" square speakers to fit, tho' could be modded to take the 5.25" I'm sure.

Gotta decide which way to go now....

That wasnt my car in the photos. Mines still running the OEM speakers but I will be upgrading them at some point.

It was one of the myriad little changes they made in '92-'93. for some reason the rear doors got separate tweeters, the fronts got co-axial ones. If the 240 hadn't been so long in the tooth by then I'd swear they were preparing the 200 series for a final facelift/update, the very late cars have so many little tweaks which can't have been cheap to do, and I don't see any advantage in it for a model which was stopping production. same thing with the heated mirrors, under-bonnet wiring changes, ABS on some cars, airbag on US models, updated dash and glovebox, all changes made for the last year or 2 of production.

Is the inner skin of the door shaped to accommodate the speaker on cars with speakers originally fitted there? I've been meaning to put my old 4" drivers in the back having replaced them with 5.25"s in the front. I took the door card off tonight and ran the cable, and there's cut-outs for the speaker in the card (which incidentally don't quite line up with the holes in the speaker cases) as with Paul's but it looks pretty borderline as to whether the speaker will fit through the hole in the inner skin. Plenty of space elsewhere if not though.

Now ^^^ thats interesting. I didn't think the 5.25s would go in the front.... thought they'd foul on the windows going down.

Guess it would make more sense to have the 5.25's in the front?
