Hi, yes, live to the red or live to the black one at a time, I assume one is up, one is down??
It seems impossible to lift the window physically, is there a place to wind it up with a spanner? Or maybe one of those glass suction things? Won't be the first time I've had a window on a car temporarily propped up with a bit of wood... |

They're both up and both down. The clue is the number of wires and the number of terminals on a battery - you have a +ve and a -ve terminal on a battery and the wires are red and black respectively.
Taking red on the battery (+ve) to the red of the motor and black on the battery )-ve) to the black on the motor will make it run one way. Reverse the connections at the motor and it runs the other way. It has no earth of its own. The strong likelihood is the switches aren't providing the "up" return circuit due to lack of use, you need to feed both wires at the motor to prove it though. You should be able to get the window up doing this, then i'd spray switch cleaner into the top of the switches, let it soak in for 5-10 minutes then with the ignition off, operate the switches vigorously in both positions. The switch in the rear passenger (both sides) doors are part of the circuit as well as the master switches on the drivers door.

Window now fully up, tomorrow I'll sort out the switches and possibly the wiring. THANK YOU VERY MUCH |

You're welcome, glad we got there in the end without having to resort to chaging the regulator/motor assembly!
If you don't carry rear passengers i'd look at the rear window switch first with the contact cleaner. That's the one most likely to get dirty and corroded due to lack of use.

Inside the switches are two small ball bearings, these get dirty and dont move on the contacts , recently cleaned mine and now work fine 👍🏻
