Default Cruise control wiring

Hi folks,

We're looking to fit cruise to my brother's 940.

It's a 1995 model, we believe, registered Sept '95.

Anyone know if it should be pre-wired? I've tried asking my brother to check if it is, but through photos and trying to give him instructions to find the wiring connectors in locations as per my 740 we think it may not be.

Elsewhere on the forum it seems that anything '95 on should be wired...

Cheers,
Jim

Yes, apparently on post '94 cars the loom is wired for all options.
The system looks fairly simple, The hardest bit will be fitting the brake and clutch pedal switches.
The attached pdfs might help.

Default 7 or 11 wire system

There have been two CC versions; the older version only had 7 wires, whereas the newer ones had 11 wires. Something to do the possibility to read fault codes stored in the CC controller.
My 98 940 was prewired for an 11 wire system, but older cars will be prepared for the 7 wire system. I don't know the transition moment. I had a 7 wire system, but had no problems fitting this to my 11 wire prewired car. From what I remember it was a straight fit of the vacuum pump to the connector under the bonnet. Under the dashboard I could not use the connector and had to tap into several of the wires running to it. I managed to fit the CC stalk to the steering column without removing the steering wheel (airbag). Here I could use the existing connector.
Just to show the CC is a stand-alone feature, mine came from a diesel engine 940 and I only needed a new throttle cable roll assembly and to fit it on my B23FK petrol engine.

Thanks folks fingers crossed my brothers car should be wired for it. I'll have to do a check myself to confirm before buying the bits

Rversteeg, I don't suppose you still have the diesel throttle reel?

I think we all need to take a moment and bask in the delight that is the Swedish word for Cruise Control:

KONSTANTFART

Default Diesel engine throttle reel

Sorry Jim,
It must have been 15 years ago when I did the CC and I think I threw the diesel throttle reel away a long time ago. Sorry!

Seeing as Rob has answered and doesn't have it Jim, i do have a suggestion.

I can't take the credit for it as it comes from the Waeco aftermarket cruise control i'm going to fit to mine but in simple terms, it has a metal strip with a hole in the end for the barrel nipple on the end of the cable.

Basically it suggests drilling the throttle drum/reel and using self-tappers to fit the bar and it then has a clamp that holds the original throttle cable and cruise cable outer sheaths together.

Think you've probably got the idea from that but if not i can probably take a photo of the pretty pictures in the installation manual for the cruise control.

Maybe not the ideal solution but an option anyway.
