B20 engine rebuild
I'm about to start a B20B engine rebuild to go into my Amazon 133 model to replace the non-original B18B unit. I want to use the car for occasional track day use and intend putting in a D cam to enhance performance. I already have a Simonz wide bore exhaust and twin SU's (which will be rebuilt by Burlen), but what would a competitive spec be for the internals (pistons, rings, bearings etc)? The car is already fitted with a P1800 gearbox and overdrive unit, so it's mainly the engine that I'm going to focus on. I don't necessarily want to spend a fortune upgrading to a full race engine. Also, which supplier offers the best deal on performance parts.....? Many thanks

I am doing exactly the same thing, I have my M41 OD box in the 133 and have begun to strip the engine down. If you need to oversize your block the main expense will be the new pistons and machining the crank if needed. So what you will need is new main bearings, rod bearings, piston rings, (pistons if oversizing), oil pump, full gasket set, neoprene rear and front housings, cam shaft, followers. the parts alone will come to £900 without machining costs, then if you need new timing gears, head work including valves and skim along with new springs and lifters etc you can double that price assuming you will be disassembling and rebuilding the engine yourself.
I have been looking around for suppliers and Brookhouse seem to be aligned with other vovo specialists. You can get a basic engine rebuild kit from the US for $650 but the addition of import taxes and postage destroy any savings to be had. |

Bottom end wise as suggest above it is all standard parts. You will want to go with steel timing gears really. The only other thing you can do bottom end wise is go with a stroker crank to increase CC and torque.
Power is all made with the head and cam. Do you have a build budget in mind? |

Thank you gentlemen. If I can keep a rebuilt standard bottom end then that means I can spend more on the head. Would you recommend a D cam or K cam ? Engine is already fitted with steel timing gears .

Cams are very close. I prefer the D, found more wear issues on the K
