Default V70 1999 AWD Manual vacuum hose broken. Mystery canister

Hi all,

I have been diagnosing a loss of power and while I was doing that, when idling I can heard an intermittent knock knock knock, actually more of a putt putt putt from the LHS behind the LH foglight.

There is a canister there, with two vacuum hoses to it. One thick, one thinner. The thinner one of them had perished away. (Rubber elbow).

I can put my thumb over it and stop the intermittent putting. I don't know if this will affect the loss of power.

What does that canister do? Once I know that I can search for a part number for the hose. In the meantime I will just use a straight piece of hose to stop the air leak.

Thanks
Steve

Hi

Yes I suspect it is some sort of evaporation canister, just can't find a name and therefore a part number for it.

US cars have an evaporation canister back near the fuel filter.

It sits in front of the left front wheel, but behind the fog lamp.
