Default Battery remote runs out. Locked out of car.

It’s ridiculous that the car doesnt warn you that the battery is running low. Today after my sons football we couldn’t get into the car. Used the VOC app to open it. Then it wouldn’t start as no key found. After ages I eventually got it to start somehow. Could have been a nightmare an using the on call facility would seem over kill. Wife’s jag warns when battery is running low so doesn’t see why Volvo can’t implement it. Rant over. Haha

I had this, it was Blocked with something, I took the battery out for 5 minutes and reinserted and it worked, it is supposed to tell you about the low battery though, but nonetheless:

Why didn’t you use the mechanical key to open the door?
You dont need a battery in the key to start it, you simply place it in the key reader near the cup holder and the car reads the passive chip.

Never tested my V90 key but my V70 used display a message along the lines of 'key battery low low replace ASAP'. Surprised if latest keys don't.

To be honest I’d forgotten about the mechanical key coz the app idea came first. Didn’t know about the key reader in the cup holder tho!! Gonna leave a spare battery in the car from now on.
Still think the car should warn coz some people might not know about mechanical key or use the app in which case they’d be stuck

It does give a "low key fob battery" warning in the drivers display. As mentioned in one of above posts if battery is flat, place the fob in the cup holder to start the car.

Were you using keyless entry or pressing the fob buttons, if keyless and fob is in the same pocket as your phone the signal can be blocked.

Were you in a usual parking place that the fob normally works or in a place you have not parked in before, there are a few odd areas that blocks out a fob signal, I have two dead areas near me that prevents my fob from working, one near a substation and one near a BT open reach hut, I have to park about 20 yards further away from those areas.

I bought cheap keyfob batteries off Ebay. Don’t usually have a problem. However these ones only last a month or so before the keyfob starts playing up. Now i am changing both keygob batteries every month or so until I run out of cheapies. The originals are Panasonic batteries and last a good year or so.

Using a multimeter, the issue with the cheapies is that they go below a threshold voltage, I think its 3V, far too soon and that the fobs require more than that to work. In other applications I’m sure the cheapies would work far longer. The only answer here is to buy better batteries with the original’s high capacity, or in my case to keep changing cheapies as required until they run out. I think I bought 20 for £3.50 or something like that.

Strange Iv not seen the warning before. Car doesn’t have keylessentry an yep was in a place it’s worked loads of times before. Must have just been a glitch in the matrix but at least now I know about the cup holder thing. Cheers

There is a wee key logo embossed on the rubber mat where you pop the key in.

I thought VOC only unlocked the boot, but Ive never tried.
