100% agreed but their charges to customers are still usually outrageous.
The customer doesn't own even 0.00000000000000000000000000000001% of the showroom or the special tools yet it is them who buy it for the owner.
No-one can deny any business the right to make a profit and I'm not suggesting they should register as charities but they don't half rip the a*se out of it.

Turns out I was mis-quoted. I was quoted Year 2 service which includes calibration for camera. Actual price is £280

prices are about £350 for the 18000 , 54000 and £450 for the 36000 and 72000.. the 90000 is more as the belts are changed

which recall are you having done ?
It's the 3rd year service.

Can't remember the exact recall but it's to due with a part which can be flamable if things get too hot.

Also getting complimentary software update

I would have thought any good trained mechanic would be able to do this or to use google and youtube to find out.
Indi garages will not update your software or give you 12 months breakdown and recovery service as the Volvo dealers do, and do they use genuine Volvo parts ?.
You can cancel your AA or RAC subscription which offsets part of the cost of the Volvo service.
Thanks for the helpful post. The mechanic that I went too preferred to release via software at that time as he wasn't really familiar with my car howeer I will show him this post for when I need to change the discs and pads in the future.

I've got the rear discs and pads done at the dealership and it wasn't cheap... about £600 IIRC.

Yes that about right. I recon about £500 for my V70 every year and £350 for my Lotus Elise. The two reasons I use Volvo main agent is (1) the engine oil is excellent and can only be found with the main agent and (2) free European assistance in the event of a break down.

I didn't realise there is a free European breakdown asssitance. Is this only valid during the first 3 years?

No, my son had his 06 V50 serviced by a main dealer. Had a puncture on the motorway, called Volvo Assistance. Recovered and trailered home. All part of the service, sir.

How often do owners try this, do they honour this commitment?
