Europe map update now 50Gb

Just installed the latest map update which is first one I have done for a few months. Noticed it is now a 50Gb download which took over 2.5 hours to download to usb and about 70 minutes to install.

I’m pretty sure previously it was about 16Gb (Or 32) for NW Europe and about 45 mins to download and 35 to install.

New version appears to include Russia as well.

Personally I can’t see a benefit of this, I know you can download specific countries but sometimes it’s good just to have all on latest version so no nags for updates,

Prior to getting my V90 in October 2016, the map updates were around 16GB.
All new SPA Volvo’s have a new Sensus Nav System and the full European updates have been from around 40+GB, increasing to the current 50GB download.

Just downloading mine and it is 19GB . Version 31676580.
This is for a MY17 XC60 and no Russia included.
Must be different, and bigger, for newer models but as I am unlikely to be driving in Russia I am quite happy to omit the map.

I rather like the abiliity to update only the countries you need, the Western Europe (UK, Iceland and I assume Eire) can be downloaded to the car via the 4G network while one drives around and and is then installed the next time the car is switched off. If I am planning to visit a different country then I can down load the country map in the days before getting on the ferry or train.

Assuming that the mobile phone companies do not renege on their promise to not charge extra for data use in other countries then you can get the update for the country while on the trip.

Should I need to drive in Russia I will update the country map while driving across from Calais or Hook or wherever.
