Default D5 Gray smoke on acceleration

Hi everyone,

I have an 04 D5 xc90 and it has starred to blow grey smoke when hard accelerating but seems to be fine if I drive very gently also when pulling away from a junction i get a puff of black smoke. Looking in to it i have found it looks like I have a vacuum leak. It has the very load knocking sound when the the oil cap is taken off but if i kink the pipe going to the engine mounts the sound goes away. I was wondering would a vacuum leak case the grey smoke as i understand it also controls the turbo veins?

Thanks

Alex

Personally I think that you may have a boost leak caused by either a failing intercooler or the associated charge pipes.

Check these out.

Any signs of drips of oil under the radiator area?

Is the performance still strong?
