I have noticed there is a turbo version for a Yazaki 1993 on ebay, this would do the job wouldn't it?

Does anyone know what the extra white plug that is masking taped to the instrument look is for?

Thanks
If the Yazaki cluster on ebay is within your budget then go for it. How many cylinders is your engine? If you have a 6-pot, the rev counter will need changing for your original.

The white plug is probably for the external temperature gauge kit.

Stepping motors are pretty robust items which depend on feed/input from the 'electronics' whether they are Yazaki or VDO. You may have re-flowed solder joints etc but, my money (always happy to be proved wrong) is that's not the problem.

Bob's right, the stepper motors are pretty sturdy animals. If the dodgy solder joints being fixed haven't cured it, i'd say you need to delve into the electronic side of it. Also consider the signal from the input to the stepper motor driver chips.
