Default V70 T5 v 2.5T (231bhp)

For a long time now I have been looking for a "good example " replacement for my 2002 V70 T5. Long story short, save for Ex Police examples - none.
Therefore to widen the search considering the 2010 era 2.5T with 230BPH at 4800rpm. Torque is a little better and available from lower RPM (1500 as oposed to 2400) than my T5
Other members have said that the Diesel although quick is no T5 and fuel costs currently are no major issue.

My question is "will a 2.5T (230) be as fast as my beloved T5"?

BTW all cars manual.

Cheers for your thoughts

The big factor there is weight. The P3 is a big old boat, starting at about 1700 Kg iirc
The P2 T5 is around 1600Kg depending on spec.
If the P3 you're looking at is AWD, you'll be looking at closer to to 2 ton of car with less power than a T5.

The gearbox might help make it feel faster but I doubt it'll be anywhere near as satisfying.

Go for a "prolonged test drive" and see what you think.

It'll remap nicely if you wanted to go down that route?

Probably not.

Although the power figures are similar, the 2010 car is about 200kg heavier than your 2002. That's a lot of ground to make up.

Also be aware that a 2.5T will cost you £500 to tax each year. Given the tax and fuel costs, you might as well go for a T6, of which there are a few private owner examples of, although I believe they're all geartronic.

I'd suggest that the most apt replacement, if you want a powerful, manual estate, would be a 530i or 535i.

Actually, looking at the top speed, I'd say it's geared to perform well.
It's the T-5/focus ST engine in there with a few tweaks so it'll drive well I imagine, if a little thirsty. Road tax isn't bad either.

Worth a test drive imo.

Probably not... If I can keep my T5 running til next MOT in March, I'll scrap her (or sell her to someone who wants to try and get another 236K from her) and run my V 70 AWD R as a daily ride. I retire in the new year and my annual mileage will drop , and the £ 500 quid I save in Tax n Insurance will offset the reduced fuel consumption..... Thats the plan..... today....

Cheers
