Yep sadly that's the case, I've had to change one or two bits on mine, they've all been the FoMoCo badged stuff that you just didn't need to worry about on the P2 models. Haven't changed as many Ford bits as I had to on my X-Type Jag tho...

This problem just popped up for me. (MY2011 D3 manual V70)

Low speed cornering, say 20mph, particularly turning right, the engine feels like it's stuttering, but fine in a straight line. I questioned ABS/DSTC so switched it off and went out to replicate the issue. It drove fine but then the ABS/DSTC lights came on and "ABS/DSTC service required" message appeared.

I guess the only way to find out where the issue lies is a VIDA fault code read?

Popped out again today, just ABS light on, which went out after couple of minutes, then 3 minutes later DSTC and ABS lights came on with DSTC/ABS service required message.

Would that point to a sensor/ring issue rather than control module or other major component?

Just a thought, if I unplug one of the wheel sensors will that disable both
ABS and DSTC?

Yes I'd have lights on the dash but at least the system won't keep interfering until I get it fixed!

I had a sensor ring problem on the old V70 from 2004. No DSTC on that, just STC, but it was a similar thing. You could drive for a little while, then the ABS lamp came on.

You really need to check what codes are coming up, even cheap reader will say if it's sensor or module.
Mine had same sensor on front passenger side, over period of 6 months.
Then module fault after that.
All sorted now for 5 months, touch wood

Thanks. I've got a ELM 327 bluetooth OBD2 reader, with Torque Pro on my android phone, but it only does engine fault codes I think. Or am I missing a trick somewhere?

VIDA/DiCE was created to supply Volvo dealers with all they needed to interrogate Volvo vehicle systems for all the information they needed to service, maintain and uprate the company's products and to read fault codes in all vehicle systems to enable diagnosis. Volvo owners are lucky that they can obtain most of the features in this facility from 3rd parties at a fraction of the price that dealers have to pay Volvo for the full bag of tricks. At the price it woiuld be less than wise not to avail yourself of this asset.

So, got codes read, points to front left sensor or tone ring.

I'm thinking of giving them a clean for starters. Anyone done this?

Presumably it's just: Wheel off, caliper off, disc off? Clean up and test sensor with ohmeter?

I don't think it is anything to do with your ABS - you need a new N/S/F wheel bearing.

You can stop it from hesitating by disabling DTSC when you start the car.
