Thanks very much. I was just wondering whether there is any relevant difference between the HDD2G16 (the one I have) and the HDD2G19 (the one in the 3rd link I posted). I ask because the latter is available from Europe and I can get it quickly. The former is available from China and will likely take 2 to 3 weeks to get to me.

From your very informative link, I can't see any reference to the HDD2Gxx marking.

and lastly, thank you VERY much for all your help.

Unfortunately I do not know the meaning or significance of the 2G16 vs 2G19 designation
I also googled and could not find anything.

Try asking Toshiba via their support emails....

Hi Folks, I checked with Toshiba technical support and their answer was that, 'all models belonging to the MK**50GAC series have the same technical specifications'. I have ordered one and will let you know when it arrives.

The new HDD has arrived and been installed in the Sat Nav unit. Next step is t get it into the car and see what happens.

Does anyone have any ideas of what I can expect?

My pick: Expect the nav to say no maps found, please insert map DVD

But absolutely do the diagnostics again and see what the diagnostic menu reports....

I'm hoping this page in the diagnostics forces a re-install of the maps to the HDD. (option c or d):

There is nothing else I can find in VIDA about the diagnostic menu.

If this fails,
Next step someone has to send you a byte-by-byte image of their European navigation HDD.

Any updates?

I'm sure someone would be eager to jump in and send an image of their drive if the two options in the diagnostic menu dont work...
