Default New engine fitted

Hello all. Just had a Volvo B20B engine fitted that's had stage 1 work done to it. According to the serial number it started in a 140 and has had alot of work. Fitted and supplied by Rob Whitton at Phoenix Classic Restorations. Ive only drove it 60 miles so early days and i will update with the results but so far hat's off to Rob and the guys who work there. Also had a twin manifold, downpipe, clutch kit and airfilter box . It's certainly more responsive and goes better as you would expect. Engines were 118bhp new, I'll put it on a rolling road soon and see where it is.
The car is getting there. New shocks next.
All the best
Joe

Hi Joe,

Wow, great news, I'll be interested to see what the rolling road tells you I have just finished with mine at Neil's and am very happy with how it runs and drives and it sounds like your engine is likely to be very similar spec to mine!

Doug.

So, this is on the Amazon that had the B18B that was running 'a bit rich'? That is one way to fix the problem.

What is stage 1? Is that like the old Volvo Rsport stage 1?

That's the one. I'm no expert but I've been told its a bit of head work, bigger valves but not 100 percent sure on all the details if I'm honest. Was definitely running really rich. Nice upgrade as its my daily.

You fixed your rich running issue by fitting a new motor? My word!

It is the no more messing around option, particularly favored by people who prefer to drive their cars rather than work on their cars. Of course, that is not really consistent with the whole vintage car ownership experience which requires grease under the finger nails as a membership badge.

Not to mention scraped knuckles and several full to capacity swear jars!

I decided to take the plunge as I fancied a B20 with some go in it and the car gets used as my daily.

I'll have a lot of the above by the end of today Bob - I'm re-fitting the gearbox and overdrive having just fixed the inhibitor switch. Report to follow (once I've finished).

Thank you. The OP and I have very different views on classic motor car ownership. To me the repair and maintenance issues are as much part of the 1960s motoring experience as the driving. That doesn't mean the OP is wrong of course, just that we disagree.

I'm looking forward to skinning my knuckles and swearing a lot as I re-fit the M40 gearbox and type D overdrive today.
