Default Servicing

Morning,

The "Book Time for Maintenance" message appeared on my V50 last night, i'm assuming this is Volvo speak to service due?

This is the first service on my V50 in my ownership so I have a couple of questions..

1. What oil should I be using on a 2007 2.0D R-Design?
2. Other than oil, filter, air filter and pollen filter, is there anything else I should be looking to do?
3. Best place for genuine items?
4. Once complete, how do I reset the service light?

I had a full cambelt kit and waterpump fitted when I bought it in September so hoping this is just your basic service required!

Thanks

Look in your handbook for correct oil. I suspect 5w30 A5/B5.
Stick to known brands, you dont just pay for the name.
For genuine filters, go to volvo, caffyns are well known to mail order stuff with discount, or buy Mann or Mahle filters; the genuine filters are made by either manufacturer with an extra (volvo) logo and part number printed on amongst their own, and even if the oe are mahle and you buy mann or vice versa, it doesn't matter, they are still the best filters you can buy.
You may find a certain member tell you that Volvo filters are made out of a special unicorn fur that only volvo can sell, but this simply isnt true, they dont patent filters, they subcontract from a filter manufacturer after giving the filter manuf the parameters required, this manuf then supplies that filter in volvo boxes to them ad-infinitum. All car manufacturers do this, even such as Ferrari who source from Ufi for example.

I get all my service parts from carparts4less, they have a choice of named brands for their filters but I get the oil on eBay. I've always used Fuchs titan 5w 30 which is about £18.00 for 5ltrs. I service mine every 6k and generally costs around £40.00 for all the bits.

Ps, can't remember exactly the sequence for resetting the service light but there are plenty of videos on YouTube on how to do this.

Fuchs is good oil.
Using carparts4less aka ecp, only buy the very big names like mann, purflux, bosch (bosch are made by purflux) do not use any budget option or name from the past, they sell a lot of crap like crosland which are reknowned for collapsing...
