Default Reduced engine performance- revs stuck at 1500

Hi all,

Just overtook someone about 20mins ago, in 3rd, put my foot down and almost immediately received "Reduced Engine Performance" message, and noticed revs stuck on 1500, literally pulling me along the road at unwanted speeds.

Doing a quick Google I have seen an array of potential causes from, throttle body, faulty glow plug... to pollen filter wiring.

I'm guessing as it has occurred when putting my foot down hard on the accelerator it is something to do with that. But has anyone got any suggestions and/or experience with this fault?

Don't really want to be replacing all sorts. Might be time to invest in a Dice+Vida. #cheshire5 I'm ready

Thanks all.

P.s. probably unrelated but my AC low pressure switch is faulty, don't know if that can cause an electrical glitch. I've got a new one, just need to fit it.

UPDATE:
I have just entered the hidden menu by holding READ and pressing the rear fog light button twice... with key turned to ll.
Now I don't know if this is because the engine was off or what but according to that hidden menu there are several errors found. For anyone who knows these or can look them up they are;
BCM
ECM
CEM
SRS
CCM
DDM
ICM..... All set to DTC SET (errors found in module)

PDM
SWM..... Both set to CHECKING (waiting for information)

Also, LOW BATTERY (although no other signs of battery low)

ADM.... set to READY (might this rule out a DPF issue?)

Turning the car over now it idles below 1000rpm as it should, but as soon as I press the accelerator to about 2000 revs and take my foot off, it sits at 1500 again.

I don't really know what to try next. My guess is check the throttle body to see if it needs cleaning.

Can someone please point me in the direction of a "how to"? It seems quite easy but looking under the bonnet, a bit of guidance would be helpful lol.

Tip: tell us the model year (MY) of the car and what engine is fitted.

To show some of the value of VIDA, here's the description of the accelerator pedal:

Accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor
The function of the accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor is to provide the engine control module (ECM) and central electronic module (CEM) with information about the position of the accelerator pedal (AP).

The accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor consists of an inductive sensor with two output signals.

The accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor transmits an analog and a digital signal (PWM). These signals indicate the position of the accelerator pedal (AP). The digital signal is transmitted to the engine control module (ECM). The analog signal is transmitted central electronic module (CEM) and on to the engine control module (ECM) via the controller area network (CAN).

The sensor is supplied with 12 V by the system relay via a fuse and is grounded to the body.

The digital signal is also used in conjunction with the analogue signal for accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor diagnostics. The accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor signals can be read. A diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is stored if the engine control module (ECM) detects a difference between the analogue and digital signals. The engine control module (ECM) then uses a minimal value to ensure the function (limp home).

The accelerator pedal (AP) position sensor is located on the accelerator pedal bracket

I am not saying that is your problem, as without a code reader everything is a wild guess.

You could write 52 reasons on a deck of cards and throw them in the air, and see which one lands first.... or get a code reader.

VIDA is highly valuable as code reading is only 5% of what it can do. It does soooo much more.

Your next steps are:
1. Connect a code reader, and record all currently logged faults
2. Clear all faults, go for a drive, and reproduce the problem
3. Read the logged faults again
4. Follow normal faultfinding steps (as outlined in VIDA) based on the codes that are logged.

Excellent, thank you very much Swiss.

That is very helpful. Next stop, purchase Dice and Vida.

Thank you.
