Default Engine making noise

My engine is making a drumming noise. At idle, it is slower and it gets faster as I rev the engine. I made a little film, hope it works.

Any ideas? Car is a Volvo V40 1.8 petrol 2002 manual.

The intermittent sound from 0:00 to 0:09 sounds like the variable valve timing sprocket.
Then when you rev up the sound changes to a more gnarling sound.
Remove the plastic cover on top of the engine.
On the left hand side there's a valve with a contact on it.
Pull the contact out (the engine warning light will come on).
If the sound goes away it's the timing sprocket.
I drove my volvo for three years with a faulty sprocket and the contact pulled with no ill effects.

If it's the sprocket you need to change it along with the timing belt, auxilliary belt, rollers and tensioners and water pump.
This is the usual procedure since half the car is already dismantled.
Lots of work, but not at all impossible.
I did it successfully even if it was my first time.
Be smart and buy the volvo cam and crankshaft locking tools. Without these there's a chance the timing will be thrown off.
