Definitive measures to protect CEM?
Hi all, I have a suspected failing CEM in my C30. Anti skid service, brake failure, reduced engine performance and so on. Cleaning the CEM and plugs with contact cleaner seems to clear these issues for 4 months or so, but this is not a permanent fix.
There are no windscreen leaks as far as I can tell, which makes me think it might have suffered from the wash pump fluid ingress failure alluded to in the R39247 recall. As my chassis number is not included in that recall, Volvo aren't interested in offering any assistance. Volsaa in Derby suggested a new CEM, but that is very pricey, so I intend to ask volvodiagnostic.com to help with a reconditioned CEM after reading other folks recommendations here. Either way, I would like to protect a new CEM as much as possible to prevent future issues reoccurring. What steps can I take to protect the electrics going forwards? I was keen to keep this car going as long as possible (is that even possible with a 'modern' car?) but the thought of battling confusing electrical gremlins constantly is more daunting than replacing consumables and failing hardware. |

I cannot recommend enough Volvodiagnostic: absolutely fantastic work, fair price, and he worked pretty fast.
My opinion is that some electronic modules suffer conception flaws that lead to the failures you experience, and cannot be prevented by any mean... However, I think Volvodiagnostic corrects those flaws, making the modules much more reliable and stable for long-term use! |

My car has been done but prior to that but I used to put silica bags around the CEM to help prevent moisture build up.

Can anyone enlighten me to the specific recall issue with the C30, more than interested as I'm about to pick up a 2012 model, cheers

I did check if there were any outstanding recalls against the registration number and it said no, assume all good in relation to the issues raised? P

In Volvo's eyes it should be all good then, but I suppose it's good to be aware of issues that have struck similar models.
