Not on a 2006 which will be a Euro 4 so not fitted with a tandem HP pump like the Euro 3.
If the HP pump on a Euro 4 isn't being delivered fuel at a high enough pressure from the tank pump, you can crank it all day and it'll never start.

Thanks for the correction. My experience of this is with the euro 3.

No problem.
It's just one of the many subtle differences between the two and the reason Euro 4 owners can't do a Liqui Moly Diesel Purge.

Default In tank pump fix

If the in tank pump is faulty it is not necessary to replace the whole pump. There is a fixing kit available.
