it is not deep in the box , just the front pump comes out behind the torque converter . there are modified seals which are a bit like piston rings . The problem is heat related as the oil gets hotter it leaks away internaly easier .
Thanks Clan. I'll try another dealer and see if they're more helpful.

Just wondering if you had any luck getting a dealer to look into this? (I have the same problem on my xc60).

Not yet, I've been quite busy and away from home.
Have you visited a dealer?

I've just got mine back from Watford volvo and they completed the adaptations road test (plugging a laptop in and taking a test drive at particular speeds and particular shifts etc) which has cured the issue for me (touch wood). It cost £156, and had to be in overnight to let the car cool beforehand.

The alternative if the problem isn't fixed by this is the replacement of some seals which involves removing the gearbox at a cost of around 1500 - described in the attached technical note for information of anyone who has this issue. (I sent this to the dealer before I took it in to help describe the issue).

That was all handled nicely by you and the dealer ..

Remember that bulletin is for the American market which often differs from the UK in methods and part numbers etc ...
