Default Oil filter removal

I've just changed the oil in my V50 2.0d and am trying to change the filter. I've put a 27mm socket on the plastic hexagon and pulled as hard as I dare but it doesn't move. Not in the slightest. I've tried a strap wrench on the body of it but it's not really big enough and the strap slips off.

Have I missed something or is it just idiotically tight? It is a right hand thread isn't it?

I don't feel inclined to try again now until I have a new one to hand as I'm sure it will break before it unscrews.

All suggestions gratefully received.

Ian.

Yes a conventional thread , All you can do is use a longer lever on the socket . It will start to move ... I have never broken one in a few of the stiff ones in the 1000's i have undone . I put it down to a non volvo filter which had the wrong size O ring put on the cap .

Hi,
Thanks for confirming I'm doing it right. It's nice to know they don't often break but I'm going to leave it until next week just in case. The car has to be usable this week!!

you can get a specific tool to undo these nuts/ caps.

It is less likely to damage the 'nut'.
