Default Problems after flat battery

Hey all.

Stupidly I had left my parking lights on yesterday for 5 hours and ran the battery flat on the car. Had to get greenflag out to jump the car as it was on the drive. Took it for an hour drive and now have a few issues. Since the battery going flat, the cruise control no longer works, my average mpg trip is stuck at 99.9mpg (if you reset it it zeros off then after a minute or two jumps back to 99.9mpg), and the dash now says alarm system requires service.

Are these things that once the car has been started and driven a few times should sort themselves out? I've checked and cant see any popped fuses anywhere.

Thanks!

What did they jump start it with? Did they get the leads the wrong way around and a big spark the first time they tried ?

He used a jumper pack and nah got it right first time. The battery was properly flat though. You'd open the door and the footwell lights were dim and flickering and they were the only thing that worked.

I'm going to take it for another run today now to see if anything changes

its been a common thing for many when jumping any car to turn on your headlights before you connect the jump leads just in case you give a sudden spike of power to the ecu etc . with a bit of luck with yours it will go away after a while if not maybe see if there are any fault codes that need clearing , not sure on the volvo but many makers its just a case of disconnecting the battery leave your lights turned on to drain any power left in the system then reconnect the battery and see if the system has reset

I suspect your battery is on the way out and not holding sufficient charge.
I had the same sort of thing after leaving my lights on and needed a new battery to resolve the issues

Just test the battery properly.
If it's knackered, it'll behave very differently from a healthy battery.

Hi
If the battery is now fully charged. Try disconnecting it for a while. Allow any units to reset. Reconnect battery and see. However if the battery has been flat it is likely to be now under par, worth a battery test and or replacement.

UPDATE:

Taken the car for a nice 2 hour drive and all seems to be back to normal, CC works, trip now shows the correct numbers and the alarm service message has gone.

It's good to know for future reference that it seems to sort itself out after a good run or 2.

Thank you for the replies!

glad for you it was just a simple and cheap fault , as others have said its worth getting the battery load tested last thing you want and been there before first cold night comes along then next morning car is dead (worst case), a tool i bought 2-3 years ago that has saved me many times is my own basic battery load tester do a search though as this is the first one i came across so there may be others cheaper
