These are the Nokian that I fitted to the V90 and the ratings are more than adequate:

My car has got XL tyres, so 105 rating rather than the standard 101 rating for the size. I think they are V rated for speed (but must check). So I must get 105 rated for weight but could probably get away with pursuading the insurance company that H speed rating would be acceptable. If the price difference between H and V is little then I might aswell go for the V rated ones just for simplicity.

Never too early to be prepared! I need to get them ordered, get the summers off the rims and check if I have got any TPMS sensors in the new set of rims. If not then I need to buy a set. So a bit of messing about before they will go on the car in Oct/Nov...

Never to early to prepare, but I don't buy winter tyres before the leftovers are sold out.

I'm on Pirelli Scorpion Winters (in the winter...) - mainly because Volvo were doing a good deal on a winter tyre/19" wheel package at the time. Previously had Pirelli Sottozerros on my XF and Sportbrake. Never had any complaints about either tyre - but then again - these were my first winter tyres and hence not had anything to compare them with. Tyre wear seemed good (18k miles on the Sottozeros with about 4.5mm left when I sold them). Both tyres are quiet, and I'm more than happy with the grip.

For winter I have 19in Volvo wheels with 235/55R19. Better for snow as narrower.

Have not truly noticed the difference in profile.

So I do have a reason to have both.

Hope you are enjoying it Ringthane (sweet or salty?)
That’s where me and you do differ, 22”, good god, why? They must serve no purpose, be ruined when you hit a pot hole and cost a fortune not to mention damage the ride quality.

You can run 22 and 19, for me personally a set of 19s would be a preferred choice. That said I am an engineer so tend to see things more functionally rather than form.

I run 19s as I like being able to rub a kerb when parking and just rub tyre not rim. However when I see some XC90s with 21s or 22s I normally feel a pang of jealousy as it makes my car look a bit plain. Then I get in it and waft silently down the road, bump it up a kerb to park it in town and I am back to being happy with my choice!

When ever I see people with 21s or 22s I think ‘what is going through your mind, and do you care so much about what your neighbours think’.

Empty wheel gaps as the brakes fit under 19 inch but people want to negatively impact the drivability, maintainability and longevity to look like a gangsta in their PCP Volvo.

TBH 21"'s Drive fine, and handle well, better than 19's on winter tyres, although not a lot in it, but to get a set of Volvo rims and Nokians at the price I did will save me a fortune in the price difference of 21" tyres and 19's I use 8 months of the year

I have 18s on my 2012 which were standard (couldn’t get smaller).

Handles well. Drives smooth, can mount a pavement and don’t get concerned about kerbing or pot holes.

If I purchased a new one I would get 19s and run cross climates on them.
